Spent four hours yesterday cleaning the bits I could safely get at - drained the carb and removed the bowl to clean it, removed the air filter and cleaned the box, removed the sump/engine air and oil exhaust filter and cleaned it, then tried to remember how it all went back together.
Found a few things not quite right: the intake manifold for the carb was broken and held together with electrical tape (new one on order). Carb had varnish in it (probable cause of sticking floats). Overall mostly lack of cleaning and maintenance: lots of dirt and excess oil.
Carb doesn't seem to leak gas a lot now, although after a few hours with the fuel tap left on, I saw some small drops on one side. At least it's not pissing gas any longer.
A problem while riding: neutral finder doesn't seem to work and I cannot kick the shifter up or down to neutral when the engine is running. I can do it okay when the engine is off. Have to get John my mechanic to take a look...
Tried to lower the seat by moving the bolts to a lower hole. Minimal effect. The solo seat is really an inch or 2 too high but the support posts are iron and don't look like they can be adjusted any lower. Might have to find a local iron shop to make another type of support. Or buy a new seat... ouch!
More to come. First pictures are in the camera.
