GBAR desperately needs volunteers

Susan and I spent a couple of hours this morning helping out at the the Georgian Bay Animal Rescue shelter on Tenth Line. We helped out in one of the quarantined cat rooms, cleaning cages, feeding, and giving affection to the cats in there. It took two hours just to get all the cats taken care of.

It's heart-wrenching to work with all these cats - many of them brought in by Animal Control - in cages. They're such gentle, affectionate, but often frightened or traumatized animals. We want to take them all home. But we're already overloaded with cats.

GBAR desperately needs more volunteers. They need people to help do the daily chores - feeding, cleaning, laundry, washing and so on. Not glamourous by any means, but absolutely necessary and rewarding. But there just aren't enough people helping out. That means a handful of dedicated volunteers and board members are filling in - some working six days a week at the shelter. That sort of pressure is very stressful.

Can anyone reading this help? Can you spare a couple of hours a week to help out? Can you give a few hours to help the animals? If so, please call 445-5204. They need help in many areas, including the store, adoption and animal care.

Please, if you can, volunteer a few hours. It would make the animals' life better, and make the other volunteers a lot less stressed to know someone is helping out.
