Faithfulness, Tradition, an old beater, and a good cigar

I had a hard time trying to figure out how to start a blog, perhaps that shows how inept I really am. I guess that doesn't really matter.

The day started as usual with some fruit, coffee, a small breakfast and a good morning with family. My kids were all off to work and the my wife and I had the day alone. Very nice. The time progressed as usual with me putzing around the house and doing a few chores. I spent an hour or two on the computer wasting time, searching the usual nonsense. I'm probably more into the political issues of this great country America than I should be. I have an unabiding sense that I should be proactive in learning and helping to maintain the values and truths our forefathers founded this country upon. I believe very strongly that our Constitution is part of what makes this country so great. God, family, and friends are special to me.

In relative terms I am somewhat new to the BAF though I have enjoyed and learned much from the members that post here. It is wonderful that we can share so many thoughts, emotions, joys, good times, and the passion we share for that which unites us.

Faithfulness is a wonderful and never ending virtue. I think of my wife that has given me many years of unending patience and faithfulness. While perhaps not deserving of this, I can always count on it. While it may seem uncomely to mention my German Shepherd dog Maxi (Maximillion) in the same paragraph, he is truly Mr. Faithful. If I knew the German language well, that would be his name (Mr. Faithful). He is everpresent as a friend and companion. Sometimes too close (under foot) still I love him......he sings and talks.

When sipping my favorite tequila, I often think of the many hours and years of hard work, sacrifice, and love our Mexican brothers and sisters have put into creating this special elixir we so enjoy. I think of the history, the family, the tradition, the desire, the devotion, and the dedication that goes into making something so special. A pride, that they have done their very best with God's help to grow, cultivate, harvest, and with year's of experience, create something of a simple plant that brings so much pleasure to others.

Thinking back of all the good times I have associated to this remarkable juice it is truly overwhelming. When I read of the tastings, the enjoyment, and the parties on the BAF, I also know how true it is for others. Lippy and the "Whisperer" come to mind. The East Coast Meet and Greet, the posts of treasure hunting and deals. The knowledge and joy shared, brings a grin to my face. Posted Image The postings of favorites, and the everchanging ideas of what constitutes "greatness" in a tequila stirs emotions and the desire for a new sensation.

Yes, I have had more to drink than I should tonight and this morning. ETWL, Chinaco, old 1921 and then Porifidio.......wish I'd done the Porfidio earlier.

I occasionally love a good cigar with my tequila and my wife HATES the smell and the potential ill affects they may have upon my health. Thus partly the reason for the "beater". I smile thinking about going out to my old Honda Civic that still makes the rounds. She is affectionately called "ole blue" She doesn't get bathed often, but she does get good care. Tonight it was a good "Padilla Miami" with some Partida repo keeping me and Maxi company in "ole blue". The windows down, 55 degrees, Stevie Ray Vaughn and the Allman Brothers turned up......it doesn't get much better.........some Louis Prima added in for fun.

I'm sitting here typing this with a sipper of old CNC (one of the pearlescent bottles) ....a taste of earth, agave, and a little pepper. Strange and not so strange that the same tequila can be sooooooooooo different at different times. Normally there would be a slight "mustiness" to the CNC, I think the cigar took it away? The CNC brings many reminders of good times past.

While I haven't had the honor of meeting many on the forum, suffice it to say I consider you friends in the Agave Spirit. A special thanks to Ian and the moderators for making this possible. Back to the CNC Posted Image

Salud!

That was an enriching "first blog" Tdog and I enjoyed reading it! It's funny but there seems to be some similarities in our lives. My wife and I will celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary this year....God bless her for putting up with me for that long! Both of my daughter's are grown up and working. My 18 year old still lives with us. Posted Image

Also, talk about faithfulness....I have an 11 year old Golden Retriever named Spencer. He truely is man's best friend! I too enjoy an occasional cigar with fine sipping tequila. I know the wife isn't crazy about it either so I usually retreat to the tequila bar or to the garage. I'll either smoke it out there or take a drive in my 1951 Dodge Coronet. I rescued this car from the scrap heap up in NJ about 15 years ago.....I have been working on it ever since. It still remains as my "never ending" project!

My favorite hobby these days is playing around at the tiki/tequila bar. I'm always on the lookout at garage sales, thrift stores, etc. for things to add to the walls, ceiling, or just about anywhere where space still remains. People think I am crazy when I tell them that hanging out at the tequila bar keeps me out of trouble. I tell them "where else can I can sip and mix agave spirits all night and never have to get behind the wheel of a car?" All I have to do is make it to the bedroom!Posted Image

We really don't live that far from each other. We should try to get together someday soon....maybe when the weather finally gets warmer and sip some tequila. Salud! Jim
