It's all been my fault...

I'm always to blame. Now it seems the reason council was "divisive" this term is because I failed to work with "the council the public chose and not the council they wanted." "They" being Deputy Mayor Cooper and me.

Thus sayeth the mayor in an article in today's Collingwood Connection, headlined "Carrier says Cooper, Chadwick made council divisive."

Okay, so I have a partner in crime, the DM. We're both guilty, it seems.

It's not the mayor's autocratic, exclusionary style of politics, nor his inability to lead. It's not his L'etat c'est moi attitude towards the public and council, either. It's not his lack of openness or his avoidance of public input. It's...

Yet another waste of money endorsed by town council

Icon 1 Comments
For fear of beating an old drum, I am going to revisit the Multi-Use Recreation Facility issues. We all remember the fiasco that befell this town when they let a large super build fund slip away because they couldn't make a decision about how and when to spend it when it came to designing a proper recreation facility. I guess in light of that debacle, the town has to decide to waste money by placing bandaid solutions to the recreation deficiencies, all over town. The first coming by way of a non-competitive pool being built by the YMCA, funded in part by a 1.5M gift from the Town. To understand why this is such a bad idea I have attached a letter detailing the inadequacies of this project.

Secondly, $900,000 has been allocated to...

Bar Notes: NYC '08

In August of 2008, I tried a few new tequila bars in Manhattan. I didn’t hit Rosa Mexicana, which I remember being good for tequila flights (and for food). Nor did I get to Dos Caminos SoHo, which I recall had a great tequila selection and some nice outdoor seating. Anyway, in search of inventive appetizers and a couple of nice shots, I visited...

Faithfulness, Tradition, an old beater, and a good cigar

I had a hard time trying to figure out how to start a blog, perhaps that shows how inept I really am. I guess that doesn't really matter.

The day started as usual with some fruit, coffee, a small breakfast and a good morning with family. My kids were all off to work and the my wife and I had the day alone. Very nice. The time progressed...

Much needed information on manufacturing agave in Mexico

Hello to All!!!

I have been asked by my boss to gather information for him. He bought acreage in Mexico approximately 6 years ago. He and his wife planted Blue Agave on them. He has been maintaining these plants for almost 6 years. Maturity is coming upon them quickly. Unfortunately, in the last year his wife has passed away and...

Adventures with bourbon whiskey

Icon 2 Comments
Out of both curiosity and a sense of ancestry, I have recently begun experimenting with other spirits. For reasons I'm not quite clear on, I started this adventure with bourbon whiskey. Bourbon is a whiskey produced in a very specific area in Kentucky, benefiting from the limestone aquifers who's high purity waters contain NO residual...

Christmas for the poor Tequila guy......

With my employer going belly up my dusty bottle hunting hit a brick wall. But the Agave Goddess has shined on this pobre fool. My younger brother headed to Mexico for some R&R. I asked him to return me 2 bottles of tequila. One was El capricho 'Elixir De Agave" and JC Maestro tequilero. Well his trip yielded something else. Instead I...

The right to know the PRODUCTION PROCESS

Icon 1 Comments
So, you thought all tequila is made the same way?

If we based our knowledge on the information (very little info) that some brands post in their brochures and websites, we'd be left with a huge hole in our knowledge. The latest advances in technology and the growing demand for more tequila, is making most producers change the production...

Edit: I actually wrote this March 17So I got my tequila Glorioso yesterday. I'm thinking of cracking it open later tonight after I come back from climbing (in a gym). Of course I'll do a write-up on it, the question is where? My blog? The forum?--So it's later now, and I think I'll just post it here. A little experiment, see what...
