As you might know, I was involved in writing some reviews for the online home of GQ Magazine, men.style.com. I am happy to announce that the reviews went live this morning (Wed. 10/17/07). Just go to www.men.style.com and click on The Upgrader--you can't miss it.

Let me say that what you'll read I didn't write. I am disappointed that the editors chose to mangle and manipulate what was written to fit their demographic. :angry2: Alas, I had no control over what was finally served up. Nor, I suspect, did the other experts they hired to cover wines and vodkas.

To their credit, they did use most of my selections as "Editors' Picks." They also decided against using my Patrón review since it was not very favorable, and they probably couldn't get any cooperation from them. ^_^

In the interest of fainess to myself, I will serve up my reviews as I wrote them on my blog here within the week.

On the up side...

They stuck with my original tequila selections. My hope is that this will help the pre-holiday push for the end of the year sales. ;)

Mike,it's nice to be able to see the truth as told by you. Many people will discover fine tequila's in the near future, and you have been and will be a major part of that.Your positive reviews and endorsements of top notch tequila's are contagious. Thanks for all you've contributed to the Industry.

Mike,

I second that, what jiboo said and I look forward to seeing more of your writings in the future with other large and larger company's. I did notice that Patron was not even on the list. How did that happen?

I noticed what I believe to be a typo on the Corazón section. "Sold in Mexico as Esponlon". I assume that should be Espolon? Is it really the same tequila or just from the same distillery? I can get Espolon here but not Corazón.

On the first Blue Agave Tour, we were told that Corazon and Espolon have slightly different flavor profiles, but their platas are very closely related.

Corazon anejo tends to taste sweeter with more vanilla tones than Espolon, in my opinion. And, no...

I won't tell them it's misspelled! :angry2:

Their anejo gives me a headache, :headbutt: so I didn't give it a favorable review. Chances were the magazine wasn't able to get samples from them, either. Guess they didn't make the cut! ^_^

You can find Corazon AND Espolon at a lot of liquor stores in GDL. I have to agree with Mike that Espolon (at least the MX version) is noticeably different from Corazon, the latter having a sweeter taste and a lot less rough around the edges...a bit weak for my taste.
Tequila should be a source of knowledge, not hangovers

There is a store here that sells Espolon for $25 but even at such a great price I always reach for the ETP that sells for $28... Do you recommend trying the Espolon or jsut sticking with the ETP?? I'm tired of being dissappointed with trying certain unknown brands iknowing I can get ETP for such a good deal.. I have tried the Corazon and didnt care much for it! Not much flavor and reminds me of Patron.

Why not try both the Corazón and Espolón side-by-side, then decide for yourself?

Which store is selling Espolón for $25 and El Tesoro for $28 in ABQ?

Wonderful reviews, Mike! I like how they get "looser" and more "sassy" as you read down the list. Were you TASTING each one as you wrote them?

Hey...

That's the Lippy/gabe school of tequila reviewing, right?
