I must admit, I have been on a tequila hiatus for the last 12 months. I do still love it, but I have been exploring the world of cognac, irish whiskey, scotch (all types), bourbon, rum, and vodka. Mostly because of the articles I have been involved with, but I went back to tequila in the past 2 weeks and I must say......I missed it greatly!!

It really is a spirit all to its own. It's uniqueness sets it apart from all other spirits. I know I have compared some other spirts mentioned above with certain flavors in tequila I have sampled, but I think that comparison grows more distant with everything I have sampled in the last 12 months. Tequila is great, there really isnt much more to say than that. It needs its own time and space and appreciation. No shooter, no mixto, take a few hours and enjoy a puro and let it impress you.

Tonights feast was my remaining bottle of Don Camilo anejo. None remains as I write my message here. It is a nice anejo, but I wouldnt buy it again. At this point my tasting notes and palate are shot! It is a nice anejo, just not in my top 20 and thus it will become just a memory to my bar to make room for other fine spirits...and so I say, so long Don Camilo anejo and welcome back my long lost tequilas, at least for now....

(mental note: maybe I shoudlnt post here after half a bottle gets emptied into my belly)

It seemed like a solid post to me.

Just finished a hiatus myself a few weeks ago. I got really into beers for awhile.

I am on what is seeming more and more to be an almost permanent hiatus from any form of alcohol. I developed migraine headaches almost out of the blue 5 or 6 years ago and any amount and any form of alcohol seems to trigger a really bad headache/migraine. If I ever go a few weeks without a single headache I try drinking a bit and sometimes nothing happens, often it triggers me into a new almost daily headache cycle.

I must say I find it to really really suck. Last beer I had was in March in Mexico (1) and it triggered something awful.

My wine cellar I so carefully aquired and nourished all these years goes almost untouched. I still have tequila left from last March although thius summer I had a few good months headache wise and I managed to drink almost 2 bottles of blanco (4 Copas).

So my hiatus is something you wouldn't wish on anyone (who enjoys booze).

BaadDawg-
Dude, that really sucks and I know who you feel. I found that if I drink (any amount) before getting on a plane, that during the decent I get the worst migraines feels. It is as if someone places my head in a vice-grip and keeps turnin' the crank. So needless to say, no booze for me before or during a flight. So Dawg, I hope you find a way to rid yourself of the migraines, because they are not fun and make life miserable.

Have you seen a specialist Stan? Is there anything they can give you? I used to get migrains from running/sports and I was given a pill for it, it no longer bothers me after taking this pill for a year or so.(can't remember what it was called, but I think memory loss was one of the side effects :clown: )
Maybe because 4 Copas is kosher/organic it doesn't bother you. You better pick up another bottle and test the theory.

Ya I see a neurologist, so far nothing really works except abstaining and even then I get them 15 days a month or more. Not all are killers but none are pleasant. Extra hard workouts also can trigger one but not nearly to the extent that alcohol does.

4 Copas being organic doesn't change anything. If I am in a period where I have not had one for awhile I can sometimes drink a bit. But many times it (drinking a bit) will be the event that pushes me back into an active headache cycle so I am very leary. Half an hour of pleasure vs 12-24 hours of hell is not much of a trade off.

For a booze lover like me it's one of life's little surprises. If it's the worst affiction that ever befalls me then I will consider myself lucky.

All that sounds like what the Spanish call "Madicíon Gitana" (gipsy curse).
If you loose your sex drive you don't miss, really, because you no longer have the drive, natch. If all else fails, try a witch doctor. Last resource maybe after acupucture.

I tend to go on tequila hiatus every year for a few months. Depends when it starts to get cold, really, but a chill in the air draws me more towards cognac and scotch. Big on scotch this year. Currently pondering the mysteries of the universe with a beeeyootiful Lagavulin 16 year. Like sippin' on a campfire. Rustic, yet very elegant. Keeps getting better with each sip.

The blancos and reps are mostly packed away right now, but sometimes anejos work for me in the winter... they sit nicely next to a mug of hot cocoa. DJ1942 is my standby when I'm in that mood.

Laga 16, huh? I am not an Islay fan at all although I know that many scotch drinkers like Laga, I am just not one of them. I tend to stick to speysides and the highlands. Anyway, if you want discuss scotch, cognac, etc. we should do it on the OTHER SPIRITS area so we dont go too off topic here. Welcome to the forum!

I´ve been on hiatus only because I¨ve been out of the country (Nicaragua.)

Love the Flor de Caña but...

Had a snifter of Herradura blanco last night--

I don't think I will ever go on Hiatus. I only started drinking tequila on the trip in March, but now I can't drink anything else. I can drink tequila all night, yet one other drink and I am toast go figure!
